Stopping greenhouse gases slowly?
‘A provocative way of describing the carbon account mechanism, which will effectively curb greenhouse gases, but gently, thanks to its progressive nature!
The reduction in CO2 emissions, individual responsibility, the flexibility and regulation of the system, the commitment of businesses and public services... can be considered as four key points of the carbon account mechanism.
It is no coincidence that they are taken from the conclusions of the Assises du Climat (February - April 2021), which revealed four criteria for the effectiveness of mechanisms for resolving climate chaos:
- guaranteeing a reduction in greenhouse gases every year, without making promises 10 or 30 years in the future
- integrating all sources of greenhouse gases, in terms of emissions in the country but also in terms of purchases of goods and services that have produced greenhouse gases in the countries where they were produced
- ensure social justice by rewarding the most modest members of society for their sobriety
- involve all stakeholders.
The result is a mechanism (a comfortable egalitarian carbon budget at the outset) that limits France's climate footprint by 6% each year, by integrating all responsibilities, including those of businesses and public administrations that are obliged by consumers, and by regulating and supervising the exchange of carbon points between surplus and deficit (poor and rich) by a robust authority (such as a Carbon Agency) to genuinely limit over-consumption.
This is necessary because of the disparities observed: while the national average is around 9,000 kgCO 2/year/person, the richest 10% are at 25,000 and the poorest 50% are at around 5,000, so that more than 65% of French people benefit from the average quota (study by Lucas Chancel's team, November 2021).
If your grumpy neighbor tells you he doesn't care about the climate, suggest a way where you don't have to worry about anything: the carbon account!
The bank card records the carbon points and does the work by itself…
Then we receive monthly statements if we want to check where we are, and that's it.
